Public Speaking for Success

Image
Introduction Public Speaking for Success is a more recent revised edition of Dale Carnegie's 1926 book, Public Speaking: A Practical Course for Business Men. Revised by Arthur Pell in 2005, it offers a comprehensive guide to the principles of public speaking and provides guidance on conquering the fears associated with public speaking. Overcoming Fear and Finding Your Voice Many intelligent people, at ease expressing themselves one-on-one, become tongue-tied and terrified when facing even a small audience. Consequently, countless brilliant ideas remain unheard due to a fear of public speaking. These valuable contributions are lost in the silence of meetings. However, public speaking is a skill anyone with sufficient desire can develop and master through training and practice. Gaining self-confidence and courage, along with the ability to think calmly and clearly while talking to a group, is not nearly as difficult as most people imagine. Do not think your case is unusually difficu...

Originals

Image
Introduction Originals by Adam Grant explores how people can transform new ideas into actionable outcomes, ultimately challenging the status quo. The book delves into the minds and habits of original thinkers, dismantling the myth that leaders with innovative ideas are simply born that way. Adam Grant argues that success in originality is not just about being first, but also about strategic timing and execution. He also introduces the concept of "procrastinators with deadlines," who use well-managed delays to refine their ideas before acting. The Choice is Yours: Following the Crowd or Forging Your Own Path Years ago, psychologists discovered that two routes to achievement: conformity and originality. Conformity means following the crowd down conventional paths and preserving the existing status quo. Originality, on the other hand, means championing a set of novel ideas that go against the grain but ultimately make things better. Of note, nothing is completely original. All...

Million Dollar Weekend

Image
Introduction Million Dollar Weekend is a concept created by serial entrepreneur Noah Kagan. It offers practical frameworks and actionable steps to kickstart an entrepreneurial journey. Start It Often, the barrier to starting a business is not a lack of skill, desire or intelligence. It is fear. Fear of Starting People often hear that entrepreneurship is a huge risk, requiring extensive preparation and planning. They choose to read books, take courses or wait for the "perfect" moment to take action. However, this inaction only breeds more doubt and fear. Instead of associating starting a business with a huge decision, try to reframe it as an experiment. Expect to learn and move on, even if it fails. Overthinking may seem like the "smart" way to launch, but any analysis before action is ultimately speculation. You would not truly understand something until you have done it. Rather than trying to plan your way into confidence, just start acting, even before you feel ...

Rich

Image
Introduction " Poverty has limited our imagination. " This is a saying that I like a lot. We may have dreamed to be rich, to travel the world , to own a half million bungalow, to own a luxury sport car. However, we may not understand the hidden value to own a land in a virtual world, or the need to buy a 10k luxury watch. Personally, the main reason I want to be rich is to have greater freedom of choice in the future. I dislike feeling financially constrained and limited in my options. The Lifestyle Creep My colleague and I recently discussed this. While our current salaries place us in the M40 category (middle 40% income group) in Malaysia, there are just as many dreams that we sacrifice for living. Through financial planning , we give up things we love (e.g. the latest gadgets) to prioritize things we value more, like our children's education or a comfortable retirement. Compared to 5 years ago, our salaries have doubled, but so has our standard of living. With a RM 30...
