The 80/20 Principle

Introduction The 80/20 Principle by Richard Koch is a book that explores and explains the Pareto Principle, where 80% of the results comes from 20% of the causes, inputs or efforts. Therefore, the great majority of effort or resources is often largely wasted. By focusing efforts on these 20%, individuals and organizations can achieve more with less efforts in diverse areas, such as business, relationships and time management. Notably, 80/20 states that there is an inbuilt imbalance between causes and results, inputs and outputs, and effort and reward. Often, we underestimate the extent to which a small minority of resources are exceptionally productive - what Joseph Juran termed the 'vital few' - while the majority, the 'trivial many,' contribute minimally or even negatively.
