AskCPG

Introduction

The AskCPG project, developed by Qmed Asia in collaboration with the Malaysian Health Technology Assessment Section (MaHTAS), makes Malaysia's official Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs) accessible via an AI-powered Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) system.

• The platform enables clinicians and medical professionals to query the CPGs conversationally, receiving evidence-based responses strictly grounded in national guidelines.

NOTE: Access for unregistered users is limited to 3 free queries per day.

Limitations

Despite leveraging MedGemma's fine-tuned capabilities, the system currently faces several reference source limitations:

• The range of clinical topics covered by existing Malaysia CPGs remains limited, and select guidelines have not been updated to align with current international standards.
• The platform currently references an older edition of the Paediatric Protocols for Malaysian Hospital, rather than the 2025 edition.
• Critical resources - such as the National Antimicrobial Guideline - are not yet integrated into the system, illustrating that not all active local guidelines are included in the retrieval database.
• While access to the Ministry of Health Medicines Formulary is offered within the app, its data is not yet integrated into the engine's query answering workflow.

Summary

The healthcare landscape features several evidence-based, specialized AI platforms, such as Medscape AI, UpToDate Expert AI and OpenEvidence.

• Simultaneously, general-purpose models like ChatGPT and Gemini are being increasingly adopted for clinical workflow.
